Workshops Purpose

1. The purpose of this communication is to advise HEFMA members of the planned professional development & training programme for year 2026.
2. In line with the Executive Committee’s Strategic Breakway, this HEFMA educational programme aims to equip and capacitate members with the necessary knowledge and learning. The programme encompasses webinars on relevant topics and areas of Facilities Management.

Topic: AUTOMATED FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS – THE FUTURE OF CAMPUS OPERATIONS

Duration: 1 Day
Venue: Virtual
Focus: Introduction to Building Management Systems (BMS), IoT-enabled infrastructure, CMMS platforms, and smart campus technologies. Delegates will explore how automation reduces operational costs, improves preventive maintenance cycles, and enables real-time asset performance monitoring across higher education campuses. I know we have done this before but it remains relevant.

Topic: CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT MANAGEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION – RISK MITIGATION & COST OPTIMISATION

Focus: Practical application of JBCC, NEC, FIDIC, and GCC contract frameworks within the higher education context. Topics include managing professional service provider performance, claims management, dispute resolution, penalties and incentive mechanisms, and how to recover costs through contract enforcement.

Focus: Managing outsourced cleaning, security, grounds, and technical services effectively. Topics include SLA development, KPI frameworks, performance auditing, consequence management, and how to structure contracts that protect institutions while incentivizing service excellence. Includes real-world case studies on cleaning and security service turnarounds.

Focus: Navigating the regulatory, governance, and compliance landscape relevant to facilities operations - including OHS Act obligations, CIDB grading and contractor compliance, SACPCMP registration, Broad-Based Procurement compliance, and internal audit readiness. Also covers how to structure reporting for Council, Infrastructure Oversight Committees, and DHET.
