HEFMA: The Higher Education Facility Management Association of Southern Africa has developed from TIMCON: The Tertiary Institutes Maintenance Conference, which was established to serve as an annual forum for the mutual discussion and education of Maintenance and Facility Managers at the higher education institutions in South Africa. The need to develop this institution to a more permanent association for the benefit of the Facility Managers of the higher education institutions of the Southern African countries lead to the establishment of HEFMA in 2000 "NEW SCENARIOS IN FACILITIES MANAGEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE ACADEMIC OFFERING" The 2008 conference will be hosted in the Jacaranda City by the University of Pretoria as part of its centenary celebrations. The 2007 HEFMA Annual Conference was hosted by the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) from 22 to 26 October 2007. The theme of the conference was: "Facilities Working Together". Click here to access the 2007 conference website.

The HEFMA benchmark reports Click on a link below to download the current or earlier versions of the annual benchmarking reports in PDF format. The year 2005 saw inaugural HEFMA 2004 Benchmarking Report. This report is the culmination of a significant team effort between HEFMA and TEFMA (the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association from Australasia). Our TEFMA colleagues truly went the extra mile to make this report possible. These reports concentrated on the total operational costs of buildings by benchmarking five operational areas, namely building maintenance, grounds maintenance, cleaning and waste management, energy and security.
